Introduction

Yilli Rreung Housing Aboriginal Corporation was established in July 2003 by the Yilli Rreung ATSIC Regional Council to become the peak Indigenous housing organisation providing housing, municipal and infrastructure services to all Indigenous people in Darwin and surrounding communities.

YRHAC is an Incorporated under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (CATSI Act) and is governed by the Office of the Registrar of Indigenous Corporations.

The Corporation has 8 members on the board of which 4 make up the executive committee. Currently, YRHAC has 25 staff members of which 22 are Aboriginal this includes both, the Chief Executive Officer and Operational Manager.

YRHAC provides housing, municipal and infrastructure services to 14 communities and 6 town camps which are governed by 11 different Aboriginal corporations and associations.

History

The corporation was first established in June 2003 out of the Yilli Rreung Regional Council’s (YRRC) vision to establish a peak Indigenous housing organisation that will deliver a range of services to council constitutes within the geographical boundaries of the YRRC, as stated in the Regional Council objectives and policies.

Vision

YRHAC will become the peak one-stop-shop for professional, outcome-driven provision of indigenous housing advisory services in the Yilli Rreung region, facilitating consistent increases in indigenous quality of life through enhancement of housing standards and access, and through promotion of healthy lifestyles at each point of service delivery.
